Doug Burleson

Dr. Doug Burleson has dedicated his life to the preaching, teaching, and scholarly study of God’s Word. Since joining the faculty of Freed-Hardeman University in 2010, he has served as Professor of Bible and Biblical Languages, Assistant Dean of the College of Biblical Studies, and Director of the university’s renowned Annual Bible Lectureship. Through his leadership in higher education, he has helped prepare countless students for lives of faithful service in ministry, missions, education, and Christian leadership.

A graduate of Freed-Hardeman University, Brother Burleson continued his academic preparation by earning master’s degrees from Freed-Hardeman University, Lipscomb University, and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He later completed a Ph.D. in New Testament and Greek from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. His academic work reflects a lifelong commitment to careful biblical interpretation, the study of the original languages, and equipping Christians to understand and faithfully apply Scripture.

Doug has been preaching the gospel since 1993, serving congregations in both Louisiana and Tennessee. Since August 2016, he has served as one of the ministers for the Estes Church of Christ in Henderson, Tennessee, where his expository preaching and pastoral leadership continue to strengthen the congregation. In addition to his local work, he is a frequent speaker at gospel meetings, lectureships, and leadership conferences throughout the brotherhood.

As Director of Freed-Hardeman University’s Annual Bible Lectureship, Dr. Burleson oversees one of the largest and most influential Bible lectureships among churches of Christ. Each year, thousands of Christians gather on the FHU campus for a week of intensive Bible study, fellowship, and spiritual renewal under his leadership. His vision has helped the lectureship remain one of the premier events for biblical scholarship and practical Christian living.

Beyond the classroom and pulpit, Brother Burleson has contributed to the church through writing, public discussions, and leadership in Christian organizations. He serves on the Board of Directors for Lads to Leaders and has written and spoken extensively on New Testament theology, biblical authority, church cooperation, and practical Christian living. He is widely respected for combining rigorous scholarship with a deep love for the Lord’s church and a genuine concern for strengthening future generations of gospel preachers.

Doug and his wife, Kristi Johnson Burleson, are the parents of four children: Eden, Canaan, Jordan, and Haven. Together they have faithfully served the Lord while investing in students, congregations, and Christian families through decades of ministry and service.
